Based on the book by the same name, Eragon is about a boy who encounters a dragon egg and becomes the dragon's rider. Set in a medieval fantasy world, the boy has to fulfill his destiny to defeat the evil King, who is also a dragon rider, but one who turned bad. Full of every cliche out there, this movie was boring and predictable. To make matters worse, Speleers cannot act his way out of a paper bag. He had no screen presense, and gave you no reason to root for him. I found the movie quite boring, and I'm even partial towards the fantasy genre. It seems that instead of spending their budget in CGI (on the dragon), they should have found themselves a lead who can actually act. Arya's a cutie, so that was a nice bonus. And both Jeremy Irons and John Malkovich did fine performances. As much as I don't like CGI, the dragon wasn't too bad. But still, the heart of any movie is the storyline and the acting, two parts that failed the most. Maybe Paolini (the author) will someday be rich enough that he'll get the movie remade. I sincerely hope so, because Hollywood rarely puts out a fantasy flick that's worth a damn. Four dead zombies. |
