The 80s was filled with cheese. There was comedy from Ferris Beuller to John Cusack movies. There was cheese in action with Chuck Norris and Stallone movies. And there were the Sword and Sorcery genre, a genre that went into hiding in the cynical 90s. This is one of those run of the mill cheesy sword and sorcery movies that you'd absolutely hate unless you liked the genre. It was full of bad acting, bad directing, bad props, bad storylines, bad dialog. But it had cheesy action, plenty of T&A, and a triple sword that shoots out the extra blades. We have the barbarian warrior with the heart of gold who needs to save the rebel Princess's brother from the bad guy. She gets nekkid for no apparent reason, which is a bonus because she's worth looking at. The fight sequences remind me a lot of the 1937 Robin Hood. I'm willing to bet Pyun got his inspiration from either that movie or the Errol Flynn swashbuckling flicks of the early 40s. The fighting styles are almost exactly the same. If you like the S&S genre, it's one of the watchable ones. If not, skip, because I don't want any griping emails that I suggested to you to see a film you detest. |
