What Is Metal?

(from page 1)

You'll hear a lot of old metalheads complain that there's no good metal today. They'll hear NuMetal bands (some of the worst music on the planet), and think that that's all the metal that's out there. They couldn't be more wrong.

The United States is kind of dead in metal, but in Europe, it's never been stronger. Bands like Nightwish, H.I.M, Cradle of Filth, Dimmu Borgir, and others I believe are better than their counterparts in the 80s, which is widely seen as the Golden Age of metal. Judas Priest put out a damn good album recently. Supposedly Iron Maiden is still putting out good albums, but I haven't been into their stuff since they started putting synths in their music. Sure it works with other bands, it just doesn't work with their sound.

Plus, I'm not even aware of dozens of good metal bands. My friend Ryan keeps telling me to buy this and that and his recommendations are usually excellent. He's the guy who got me into Nightwish.

So if you have any questions, go to my profile page and you'll see my email, and go ahead and send me an email. I'll be more than happy to talk about metal with a fellow fan.
